Description

Summary and Objective  

The Safety Programs Manager oversees the design, administration, and performance of the Safety Management System (SMS) and Internal Evaluation Program (IEP). This role ensures compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements while fostering a proactive safety culture. The manager will lead all hazard tracking and risk mitigation efforts, facilitate structured risk assessments, and perform in-depth safety data analysis to inform leadership and drive continuous improvement.

  • Develops and directly manages the Safety Evaluation and Audit Program (SEAP) to ensure company compliance with applicable regulations and internal standards, identifying areas requiring improvement, identifying hazards to operations and monitoring effectiveness of safety risk controls 
  • Establishes and implements the IEP and partner/vendor oversight programs 
  • Ensures staff is trained to perform evaluation duties in accordance with standards and procedures established within the SMS Manual 
  • Assists the Senior Director Safety in the planning, implementation and direct oversight of the evaluation/audit schedules using a risk based methodology 
  • Reviews and performs safety and quality system evaluations, audits, and investigations of operational areas 
  • Assists operational departments in the development of root cause analyses, risk assessments, and corrective action plans 
  • Oversees risk assessment on evaluation and audit findings and approves comprehensive corrective action plans and performs follow-up as necessary 
  • Reviews past evaluation/audit records and compliance data for trends; develops trend reports for action by Senior Leadership 
  • Assists department with required oversight of SMS program implementation and maintenance 
  • Assists operating units with continuous improvement through the application of quality and safety management principles 
  • Takes a significant role in the development of crewmembers to support the engagement, growth, goal achievement 
  • Ensure adherence to all Safety and Security regulations 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required education and experience 

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Diploma 
  • Five (5) years’ experience with a Part 121 or 135 carrier 
  • Proficient knowledge of ICAO SMS, audit, and quality principles 
  • Quality / Safety / IEP Auditing Experience 
  • Have a thorough understanding of relevant CFRs and other compliance standards 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Ability to develop reports and present to company leadership and various regulatory authorities 
  • Must be authorized to work lawfully in the United States, must provide two forms of Federal Identification.  
  • Candidates must successfully complete a comprehensive background check prior to employment. This includes verification of previous employment, education, criminal history, and any other relevant information necessary to determine the suitability for the position.  

Preferred education and experience 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Management, Engineering or a Safety related field 
  • Familiarity with: 
  • ICAO, EASA, Wyvern Wingman, ARGUS, and SAS standards 
  • Root cause analysis, risk assessment, SMS and IEP principles 
  • Familiarity with Federal regulations 
  • Familiarity with Quality Management System (QMS) 
  • Training and aviation experience in quality assurance auditing or internal evaluation 
  • Ability to create dashboards / Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
