MECHANIC 

 

Directly Reports To:Mechanic Shift Supervisor 

 

Mission of  

this Position:Work side by side with A&P mechanics and supervisors, to inspect, test, repair, maintain, and service aircraft and aircraft systems following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to properly perform safely, accurately and on-time. 

 

Key Responsibilities:  

Meet or exceed position’s duties/expectations and FAA regulations while displaying initiative, adhering to Tropic Ocean Airways (TOA) SOPs and aligning with core values of the organization.   

   

  • Work under the supervision and guidance of the Director of Maintenance (DOM) and Assistant Director of Maintenance (ADOM) of the department to ensure that aircraft are prepared to safely function per regulation.    
  • Participate in internal communication with all other departments related to equipment considerations, product excellence, scheduling issues and required paperwork.    
  • Focus on safety by observing self and teammates and being vigilant. Report issues and offer suggestions to promote continuous process improvement.  
  • Examine and inspect engine or other components for cracks, breaks, or leaks.
  • Disassemble and inspect parts for wear, warping, or other defects.
  • Assemble and install electrical, plumbing, mechanical, hydraulic, and structural components and accessories, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Adjust, align, and calibrate aircraft systems, using hand tools, gauges, and test equipment.  
  • Service and maintain aircraft systems by performing tasks, such as checking oil levels, fueling aircraft, greasing moving parts, checking tires and checking brakes. 
  • Perform calendar and hourly inspections and other collateral duties as assigned such as inventory control.  

   

Essential Skill Set:  

 

  • Airframe and powerplant (A&P) license from FAA
  • Experience in a civil aviation maintenance environment or military aviation maintenance environment
  • Keen attention to detail and time management skills
  • Effective spoken and written communication skills
  • Ability to adhere to TOA safety and SOP standards
  • Demonstrated ability to act with honest, integrity, and respect for teammates
  • Experience with modern avionics systems (e.g., Garmin G1000, Collins Pro Line 21, other glass cockpit systems) is a plus
  • Experience with Cessna Caravan (C208) or Pratt & Whittney PT6A engine are a plus
