Job Summary:
The Director of Safety has responsibility for safety functions related to Part 91 and Part 135 aviation operations across Jet Access. This role supports the development, implementation, and maintenance of comprehensive safety programs while ensuring regulatory compliance and fostering a culture of safety excellence. The Director of Safety will champion safety initiatives, manage critical aviation safety documentation, coordinate safety training programs, and work directly with flight crews to instill our "Safety First" core value throughout all flight operations.
Core Schedule:
- Core schedule will be Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
- On call or evening/weekend/holiday hours may be required for incident response, safety investigations, and urgent operational needs
- Travel required up to 25% to various Jet Access locations for safety audits and inspections
Compensation:
- Base Salary Range: $85,000 – $100,000 (annualized), paid bi-weekly
- This position is classified as FLSA Exempt
Day in the Life:
As the Director of Safety at Jet Access, you'll play a key role in ensuring safety excellence across our Part 91 and Part 135 aviation operations while developing expertise in regulatory compliance and safety program management. Here's what your role encompasses:
Safety Management Systems Leadership
- Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of comprehensive Safety Management Systems (SMS) for Part 91 and Part 135 operations
- Monitor and report on aviation activities that may have an impact on safety across charter and management operations
- Lead and maintain Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) and Maintenance Safety Action Program (MSAP) initiatives
- Assist with Flight Operational Quality Assurance (FOQA) program
- Help maintain aviation-specific safety performance metrics and reporting systems
Regulatory Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain compliance with 14 CFR Parts 91 and 135 safety requirements across all flight operations
- Serve as Designated Employer Representative (DER) for the certificate DOT Drug & Alcohol program
- Support aircraft fleet insurance programs, including documentation updates, invoicing coordination, and communications with insurance providers
- Assist with maintaining liaison relationships with industry safety organizations and regulatory agencies
- Support regulatory audits and inspections from FAA and other aviation authorities
Emergency Response & Risk Management
- Assist with maintaining and executing the Emergency Response Plan specific to aviation operations
- Conduct aviation incident and accident investigations with root cause analysis
- Support Fatigue Risk Management Program (FRMP) compliance and monitoring
- Maintain comprehensive databases of aviation occurrence, incident, and accident information
- Track safety recommendations and corrective actions to ensure effective implementation
Safety Training & Communication
- Develop and deliver aviation-specific safety training programs for pilots and support staff
- Facilitate Safety Committee meetings focused on Part 91 and Part 135 operations
- Create and distribute aviation safety articles, bulletins, and safety communications
- Coordinate with training departments to integrate safety initiatives into recurrent training programs
- Maintain training records and ensure compliance with aviation safety training requirements
Industry Relations & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor industry aviation safety concerns that may impact operations
- Collect and analyze safety information from industry sources and ensure dissemination among employees
- Conduct routine safety inspections and evaluations of aviation operations
- Develop safety improvement recommendations based on trend analysis and industry best practices
- Complete special projects and initiatives as needed, embracing opportunities to contribute to Jet Access's continued growth and success

What will make you successful:
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Aviation Safety, Aviation Management, or related field preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum 2-4 years of experience in aviation safety operations, with demonstrated interest in regulatory compliance
- Working knowledge of FAA regulations, particularly 14 CFR Parts 91 and 135
- Experience with or strong interest in Aviation Safety Action Programs (ASAP) and Maintenance Safety Action Programs (MSAP)
- Familiarity with Safety Management Systems (SMS) principles and implementation
- Willingness to train and develop as backup Designated Employer Representative (DER) for DOT Drug & Alcohol programs
- Understanding of aviation accident investigation and root cause analysis techniques
- Experience with insurance documentation and aviation insurance requirements preferred
- Proficient computer skills with MS Office Suite and aviation safety databases
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel
- Must pass background checks and pre-employment screening

Additional Qualities That Will Make You Successful
- FAA commercial pilot, airline transport pilot, mechanic, or dispatcher certificate
- Experience with Part 91 and Part 135 operations in program management or oversight capacity
- Previous experience as Designated Employer Representative (DER) for DOT programs
- Completion of FAA Safety Management System training or equivalent advanced safety certifications
- Experience with aviation training program development and delivery
- Professional aviation safety certifications (Board Certified in Aviation Safety, etc.)
- Military aviation safety experience
- Strong analytical skills with ability to identify trends and patterns in safety data
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for diverse aviation audiences
- Experience coordinating with insurance providers and managing fleet insurance requirements
- Proactive mindset with ability to anticipate safety risks and develop preventive measures
