Avionics Technician III 

Location - California, MD (Pax River Naval Base)

  • Performs aircraft maintenance to include inspection, operational test, repair, and modification of aircraft electrical/avionics systems.
  • Applies advanced technical knowledge to solve complex problems and to provide technical assistance, guidance and instruction to other employees as needed.
  • Possess a high degree of expertise of aircraft electrical/avionics systems including communications security (COMSEC)
  • Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals and publications, and special tools and test equipment
  • Must be familiar with operational capabilities and limitations of electrical/avionics systems
  • Possess a thorough working knowledge of the detection, prevention and treatment of corrosion
  • Performs the troubleshooting and rewiring of complex avionics/electrical systems and subsystems discrepancies and modifications
  • Provides technical assistance, guidance and instruction as required
  • Estimates and accesses damage of avionics/electrical components/systems as related to crash and mishap damaged aircraft to include repair and/or replacement, man-hours, parts, components, and materials
  • When assigned to the flight line, provide customer support during launch and recovery and aircraft security as required.
  • Completes maintenance documentation accurately using OOMA, and required forms, as required by job assignment.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 6 years' experience in a primary MOS from any of the following OccFlds: 6323 Aircraft Maintenance, equivalent skill designation from other services or possess valid FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certification
  • Must show proficiency in the use of OOMA within 90 days after assignment
  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • Must have held a Collateral Duty inspector (CDI) designation on Military Aircraft or 4 years FAA Inspection Authorization (IA) experience
  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance and base access.
  • Prior CDQAR preferred
  • USN/USMC experience preferred 

 Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and maneuver 50 pounds. 
  • Must be able to pass fit for work physical and/or drug test as required.
  • Must be able to work in areas that require awkward posturing, bending, kneeling, squatting, to include working overhead.
  • Must be able to work at height in the hangar and on the flightline.
  • Must be able to man and perform Flightline Extinguisher duties.
  • If required must be able to pass a DOT physical and operate Powered Industrial Trucks.
  • If required must be able to pass a respiratory physical and wear a respirator for 2 - 4 hours.
  • If required must be able to perform confined space activities.
  • Travel may be required.
