Description

As the Assistant Chief Pilot, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and coordinating field aviation operations by working closely with Regional Operations Directors, Regional Maintenance Managers and where applicable Regional Clinical Managers in your assigned Region. Your primary focus will be to ensure that flight operations are conducted safely and efficiently within the desired parameters of standardization and quality.  Coordination is essential between aviation management and oversight with our external and internal partners.

Leadership and Oversight:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to lead pilots and line pilots.
  • Ensure compliance to company policies, operations specifications, aviation regulations, and safety protocols.
  • Provide performance reviews and administer corrective action in coordination with the Chief Pilot in accordance with all policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of field aviation activities, including pilot scheduling, crew assignments, and coordination with aircraft maintenance planning.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Operations, Chief Pilot, and Director of Training to develop and implement strategic plans for enhancing aviation operations efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Serve as one of the on-call Flight Operations Managers with operational control for the Operations Control Center

Aviation Schedule Management:

  • Monitor and optimize aviation schedules to ensure efficient utilization of aircraft and Pilot resources. Coordinate with Regional Operations Directors and Clinical Leaders to align pilot schedules with operational requirements and patient needs.
  • Coordinate with Regional Operations Directors and the Chief Pilot on movement and location of aircraft for company needs.

Aviation Quality and Safety Assurance:

  • Collaborate with the Apollo Director of Safety to ensure quality improvement and assurance processes to maintain the highest standards of safety and service excellence.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections of aircraft, facilities, and operational procedures within your assigned Region to identify and address any safety concerns or non-compliance issues.

Relationship Building:

  • Cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with Regional Operations Directors, Maintenance Managers and Clinical Leaders to facilitate seamless coordination and communication.
  • Serve as a regional liaison between different departments to address operational challenges, resolve conflicts, and promote collaboration.

Training and Development:

  • In coordination with the Chief Pilot and Director of Training, develop training programs and initiatives for aviation personnel to enhance their skills and knowledge in areas such as safety procedures, emergency response, and customer service.
  • Assist the training department in developing pilots to understand what a HAA pilot is and become excellent HAA pilots.

Performance Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of the Lead Pilots.
  • Prepare regular reports and presentations for senior management to provide updates on operational performance, safety metrics, and compliance status

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management, Aeronautical Science, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument rating. Airline Transport Pilot preferred. Multi-engine category and class is also preferred.
  • Second Class Medical Certificate from an authorized aviation medical examiner.
  • Previous experience as Assistant Chief Pilot, Regional/Program Aviation Manager or a similar leadership role within the aviation industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of aviation regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate with various stakeholders, including government agencies, medical and maintenance crews, and customers.
  • Leadership skills: Ability to manage staff and coordinate with different departments.
  • The ability to resolve conflicts and/or address performance issues.
  • Willingness to travel (Approximately 50% of allocated time)
  • Ability to complete regular training and proficiency checks. This includes simulator training for emergency scenarios and operations procedures.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
