Job Description

We have a fantastic opportunity for an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer to be based at Culdrose, Cornwall to plan, coordinate, direct, and/or perform engineering assignments involving specifications for, and design changes or alterations to, aircraft, engines, systems, components, and field or shop equipment. This will be to support MAWS and LM-STAR.

LM-STAR is a critical asset that ensures high mission capability rates for some of the military’s most complex platforms – and Lockheed Martin’s PBL program is its service counterpart that sustains station availability.

MAWS is a Merlin Avionics Workshop.

The role will involve:
  • 3rd line support engineering work. The parts come off the aircraft and we test and repair (If we can) and send it back out to the Navy. Experience beforehand is essential working in a section called MAWS.
  • Carry out Servicing, Repair, Integration, Test and Modification of Merlin Avionic and associated Test Systems within a Workshop, Training Environment, and On Aircraft.
  • Work independently under consultative direction towards predetermined long-range goals and objectives.
  • Responsible for the Corrective / Preventative / Scheduled / Condition Based Maintenance, Repair, Overhaul and Test including Configuration, Calibration, Embodiment of Modifications and satisfaction of Technical Instructions of Avionic and Test Systems supported in Workshops, Training Facilities and On Aircraft as required.
  • Engineering assignments to be performed and complied with in accordance with LM / Military Aviation Authority Regulatory Governance and Policy.
  • Work on complex technical problems, recognising, developing and delivering solutions which are highly innovative.
  • Support Closed Loop Analysis activities, developing solutions improving product support and asset availability.
  • Act as MAWS Occupational / Environment / Safety / Health Representative.
  • Attends all LM & MOD Safety Meetings.
  • Manages all Risk Assessments / COSHH / SYPOL Data Sheets.
  • Manages / Controls all Procurement / Storage / of Petrol Oils and Lubricants / Inflammables.
  • Coordinate, deliver and develop MAWS associated Training Courses as required.
  • Provide guidance and Continuation Training within the workshop to promote personal development and to maintain a high level of continuity.
  • Liaise with the On-Site Support Team, In Service Support Engineers and Equipment Manufacturers on technical issues affecting Depth Capability.
  • Execute primary Avionic Engineering and secondary ancillary tasking / activities as requested in support of LM Program / Functional / Organisational objectives.
Additional / Occasional Duties and Tasks
  • When requested provide deployed engineering support to Automated Test Stations (LMSTAR / eCASS), Aircraft, Avionic / Test Systems and Equipment detached from Main Support Base – UK and Foreign.
  • Field Service Team (FST) SME for assigned In Service Retrofit Upgrades / Aircraft Support Activities.

  • Experience of Military Rotary Wing Helicopter Avionic Systems implemented at Depth and Forward within MAE – Certifying & Support Staff with Supervisory Responsibilities.
  • MAWS or LM-STAR experience. LM-STAR is a critical asset that ensures high mission capability rates for some of the military’s most complex platforms – and Lockheed Martin’s PBL program is its service counterpart that sustains station availability. MAWS is a Merlin Avionics Workshop.
  • Comprehensive academic knowledge, awareness and understanding of MAA Regulatory Publications, the key principles of Air Safety and Continuing Airworthiness Engineering.
  • Relevant experience of the required aspects of Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) - Availability, Reliability, Maintainability Techniques and Analysis.
  • Inclusive notional insight and experience of Supply Chain Management Principles and Procedures.
  • Health and Safety Awareness – IOSH Working / Managing Safely.
  • Total cognizance with Electrostatic Sensitive Semiconductor Devices and Electrostatic Discharge Protected Area policy and regulations.
  • Defence Train the Trainer (DTTT) & Defence Workplace Trainer (DWT) experience / qualified.
  • Computer literate to ECDL standard or equivalent.
