3/14/25, 4/11/25 (final) Under general direction, the Senior Airport Manager directs, manages, supervises and coordinates the activities and operations of department wide functions within the Sacramento County Department of Airports and coordinates assigned activities with other sections, departments, outside agencies, and the general public.

Plan, coordinate and direct complex airport operations involving airport tenants, users, the community, governmental agencies, and County departments
Independently and effectively make decisions regarding airport operational needs and the safety of the public
Interpret and apply applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
Develop and maintain cooperative, effective working relationships with all levels of County staff, public and private organizations, public officials, the media and the general public
Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
Apply customer service skills, including the identification of customer needs and follow up to ensure customer commitments have been met
Effectively represent the department to other departments, agencies, and the public
Influence and persuade others
Interpret and summarize a variety of data and information
Exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality of information
Work independently and in a team environment
Effectively manage multiple projects and priorities
Completion of a Bachelor's degree, or higher, from an accredited college or university.
AND
Either: 1. Three years of full-time paid experience employed by the County of Sacramento in the class of Airport Manager.
Or: 2. Three years of full-time paid management level experience or higher, at an airport or in the aviation industry.
Or: 3. Three years of full-time paid management level experience in retail property/tenant management or commercial real property leasing.
Or: 4. Three years of full-time paid management level experience in communications, marketing, or public relations and media. In order to be qualifying, experience in these areas must have included responsibility for policy planning and program development.
Note: Additional experience at the level of and in one of the areas listed above can be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis. (30 semester units or 45 quarter units = 1 year of experience.)

General Qualifications
Criminal History and Background Checks:
The County may access criminal history information on candidates who have accepted a conditional offer of appointment for this class consistent with the provisions of Board of Supervisors Resolution No. 82-602, Personnel Policies and Procedures B-5, and applicable federal and state laws. The County shall not consider for employment any candidate who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor that relates to or impacts the candidate's ability to perform the job duties of this class unless it is determined that mitigating circumstances exist. For purposes of accessing criminal history information, the candidate will be fingerprinted. A subsequent arrest notification may be obtained.
The County may also conduct a background check on the candidate prior to appointment to a position within this class. The background check may include personal and professional reference checks, credit history checks where authorized by Labor Code section 1024.5, Social Security Number verification, professional license/registration verification, military service information and driving history. Information obtained in the course of this background check will be considered by the appointing authority in the selection process. In obtaining such information, the County will comply with applicable consent and disclosure practices in the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the California Investigative Consumer Reporting Agencies Act.
License Requirement:
A valid California Driver License, Class C or higher, may be required at the time of appointment. Failure to obtain or maintain the appropriate California Driver License may constitute cause for personnel action in accordance with Civil Service Rules or applicable bargaining agreement. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Special Access:
Incumbents in this class must acquire and maintain an airport security badge allowing access to secure County airport locations. Failure to maintain an airport security badge may constitute cause for personnel action in accordance with Civil Service Rules or applicable bargaining agreement.
Working Conditions:
Some positions in this class require the incumbent to:Work irregular hours and be subject to "on-call" status 24 hours a day.
Work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
Work at various locations within Sacramento County.
Probationary Period
The probationary period for this classification is twelve (12) months.
