What the position is: 


The Director of Inflight Operations & Standards is responsible for executing on the strategy for the operation of the bases and has oversight of the Flight Attendant workgroup at CommuteAir. As a people leader, top priorities, and base objectives, with a special focus on on-time performance, customer service, and safety. 



Essential Functions:


  • Lead team and establish priorities for the daily operation of the bases and oversight of the Flight Attendant workgroup (e.g., daily interactions with Flight Attendants, base supervisors, listening to and handling Flight Attendant concerns, initiative-taking coaching and documentation of issues, support, and guidance, etc.). 
  • Cultivate a positive and trusting relationship with Flight Attendants and Unions, Representatives by maintaining a highly visible presence at the bases, on-going and timely communication, and labor contract administration.
  • Develop people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on delegation of assignments, growing and developing the team for capacity and growth, looking at performance across the team, and time management.
  • Lead by example (e.g., good judgment, professional appearance, solid work ethic) and work closely with performance supervisors to provide direction in all discipline issues.
  • Shape culture of team through our CORE4 values and, presence, and reinforcement of behaviors.
  • Establish and achieve Inflight base objectives, with special focus on on-time performance, customer service, and safety. 
  • Oversee and give direction in the areas of employee relations, sick leave, and safety. 
  • Maintain and model an elevated level of proficiency with Flight Attendant procedures, and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and contractual requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, all federal/state regulations and local airport authorities. 
  • Participate in the Flight Attendant hiring process and probation review process.
  • Partner with local station management, other base managers, and Inflight leaders to achieve company goals. 


General requirements & qualifications:


  • 2 years of experience in customer service.
  • 3 years of leadership experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of airline experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of airline training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Ability to complete CommuteAir initial training/IOE, hold FAA Flight Attendant certificate, and remain qualified through recurrent training. May be directed to fly as a working crew member, when needed.
  • Ability and willingness to work a variable schedule, including being on call for a period of 24 hours.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize competing priorities in a challenging environment while interfacing with multiple people.
  • Ability to anticipate needs of the staff and maintain an upbeat, positive, can-do attitude.
  • Must be able to obtain and keep current a U.S Passport.
  • Excellent communication (e.g., verbal, written, and listening) and people skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook).
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of twenty-one.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Experience working with Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA)
  • Knowledge of station or base budgeting processes preferred
  • Always maintain professionalism, maintaining composure regardless of the situation.
  • A satisfactory work history and ability to pass a detailed background and criminal checks. 


Physical Requirements:


Medium Work- Exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force consistently to move objects.  Includes extended periods of standing and moving about on foot regularly. 


  • Able to push and control a beverage cart weighing up to 250 lbs.  which is on wheels. 
  • Able to reach, crouch, kneel, bend, twist, etc., moving in confined spaces.  Able to reach and operate emergency equipment and exits.
  • Able to hear clearly in loud environment.
  • All requirements should be achievable with or without accommodations

Visual Acuity:


Machine operators with inspection-Includes inspection, close assembly, clerical administrative; This is a minimal standard for use with those whose work deals largely with preparing and analyzing data and figures, accounting, computer, extensive reading, visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, operation of machines using measuring devices, assembly, or fabrication of parts



Environmental Conditions:


  • Position will primarily be inside with minimal exposure to the elements.
  • When in flight, varied weather conditions, may occur and incumbent may be exposed to outside elements including weather variations from over 90 degrees to under 32 degrees, depending on locations and climate changes. 
  • Noise, there is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout to be heard above ambient noise at times.
  • Atmospheric conditions may cause heightened movement and cabin discomfort.
