JOB SUMMARY
The Director, High School Outreach will lead promotion, school recruitment, and expanded use of the free AOPA Foundation High School Aviation STEM Curriculum. This role involves building strong relationships with high schools, educational organizations, state agencies, and community stakeholders to increase program adoption as well as student engagement and participation in the aviation-related curriculum. The Director will oversee outreach efforts nationwide, leading new and existing high school aviation programs to adopt the AOPA Foundation Curriculum and help them maintain and grow their programs. In this role, the Director is responsible for representing AOPA and the AOPA Foundation at events, workshops, and industry meetings. This role reports to the Senior Director, High School Aviation Initiative. There are no direct reports currently assigned to the Director, which may change as the program continues to grow.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Proactively identify and recruit high school programs nationwide to use the AOPA Foundation Curriculum.
Expand AOPA Foundation Curriculum awareness and guide vision, planning, adoption, and growth strategies for new and existing high school aviation programs through phone calls, online meetings, email correspondence, and in-person meetings, when appropriate.
Evaluate program effectiveness, assist in securing funding opportunities, and advocate for the importance of aviation education within the broader STEM framework.
Facilitate relationships with regional, state, and national education, transportation, labor and industry, and other governmental and non-profit entities that promote cooperative aviation and workforce development.
Identify opportunities for post-secondary dual-enrollment and articulation agreements, serving as a liaison between stakeholders.
Travel as necessary to represent the organization and make presentations at events, conferences, workshops, industry meetings, and seminars.
Collaborate with High School Initiative team to ensure Symposium content is relevant to current and prospective AOPA Foundation Curriculum teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders, including but not limited to agenda development and identifying, securing, and preparing speakers.
Work closely with the High School Initiative team to ensure the program curriculum meets the needs of teachers and students and is aligned to relevant standards.
Assist High School Initiative team to develop and execute relevant teacher professional development workshops, with primarily focus on outreach components related to the events.
Assist with development and execution of federal and other donor grants.

REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Advanced degree in education with 7+ years of experience in education or youth program management.
Experience with STEM related educational and programming practices.
Prior success in developing successful relationships with school administrators, school boards, and/or state boards of education.
Ability to communicate and interact effectively with diverse stakeholders, including administrators, teachers, staff members, community partners, donors, and state and national-level workforce development representatives.
Proven track record of executing creative approaches and innovative strategies to promote ideas and advance programs/concepts.
Experience managing multiple priorities and projects in a fast paced and dynamic working environment.
Exceptional project and time management skills.
Public speaking experience required along with excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to travel 1 – 3 times per month for a few days to a week each time to various locations throughout the United States.
PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with aviation STEM programs strongly preferred.
Private Pilot Certificate and current FAA flight medical strongly preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position works in an office setting and in the field at various stakeholder sites due to the frequent travel.
Typical working hours when in the office are 8:30 am – 5 pm, Monday through Friday, with an hour lunch break. When traveling for business, working hours may vary based on travel schedules and stakeholder availability.
Generally, a climate-controlled environment with occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions when attending aviation related events, including exposure to higher altitudes and confined spaces if in a general aviation or commercial aircraft.
This position requires travel 1 – 3 times per month for a few days to a week each time to various locations throughout the United States. Travel is by aircraft (general aviation and commercial) and by road or public transit.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands of the Director, High School Outreach position are typical of a standard office environment and frequent travel by roadway and air. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly be required to:
Sit for extended periods while working at a computer or attending meetings, traveling in a vehicle and/or aircraft.
Ability to stand, bend, lean, reach, grab, duck, climb up get into and step down to get out of general aviation.
Ability to travel via general aviation and commercial aircraft at various altitudes and for various periods of time.
Use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
Communicate effectively via email, phone, and in-person, which requires clear speech, hearing, and vision.
Occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 25 pounds, such as boxes of materials or equipment.
Stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms during the course of normal office activities, traveling for business, and engaging with stakeholders at various aviation related events.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This position is located at the Frederick, MD location.
The salary range for this position is: $95,000 - $110,000 depending on education and experience.
