The Director Fuel Operations provides outstanding Leadership and support of the Fuel Operations Team at Southwest, including direct management of two Fuel Ops Managers, a Manager of Fuel Quality & Compliance, and high-level individual contributor(s) having substantial city-level responsibilities over Southwest's fueling operations. This role spearheads Fuel Operations' role in Fuel Strategy & Management's support of Southwest's overall daily operation and leads on the execution of the Fuel Operations part of Fuel Strategy & Management's Strategic Vision (strategic plan for FS&M). The Director Fuel Operations is a strategic thinker who is ready to drive the future of Southwest’s Fueling Operations Strategy by providing reliable, safe, and timely fuel services, ensuring quality and compliance, and optimizing total fuel operational costs and its financial impact on the Company.

This role is a hybrid position based out of our Corporate Campus in Dallas, TX, which requires Employees to work onsite on our Corporate Campus at least three days a week. Responsibilities
- Oversees creation and implementation of negotiation strategies, analysis, and presentation of data to support decision making
- Develop presentations and reporting for Team and/or Leadership and other Stakeholders
- Direct and oversee fuel quality manual administration, fuel training program administration, and fuel supplier performance management
- Responds and/or directs response to FAA inquiries and ensures consistent and accurate documentation of audits in compliance with Southwest Airlines Fuel Quality Program
- Develop and drive strategy to effectively manage: on and off airport storage/terminal facilities, including maintenance and operations (M&O), capital planning, development and financing; and into-plane service providers
- Directs spend and market analysis and data gatherings for supplier business reviews
- Provide strategic guidance during regular supplier business reviews, scorecard development, performance management, and represent SWA to supplier executive leadership
- Direct the Company's coordination and efforts with industry trade organization on technical/consortia matters affecting U.S. fuel value chain
- Support the Managing Director FS&M in attending critical, strategic meetings and overseeing the generation of relevant materials for Executive Leadership meetings, Sr. Staff meetings, Operations or Customer meetings, all FS&M gatherings, and other essential pursuits (e.g. developing business cases, multi-year plans, key messages, project updates, savings plans, etc.)
- May perform other job duties as directed by Employee’s Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
- Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data
- Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by air, rail, sea, or road, including the relative costs and benefits
- Skilled in understanding and applying information to contribute to the organization’s strategic plan
- Skilled in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
- Skilled in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
- Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense
Education
- Required: High School Diploma or GED
Experience
- Preferred: Experience in fuel management systems like Allegro
- Preferred: Experience managing fueling logistics and/or fueling operations.
- Demonstrated experience in directly or indirectly leading Team(s)
- Expert level business acumen in functional area
- Seasoned and specialized knowledge in:
- Managing all phases of mid to large scale strategic programs including acting as a change agent, managing through organizational change, and implementing process improvements
- Strategic value chain management with experience developing strategies and approaches, and leading cross-functional Teams to effectively support the organization
- Establishing and managing a complex portfolio of projects and initiatives
- Advanced analytics, fluency in metric-setting and management to key performance indicators
Licensing/Certification
Physical Abilities
- Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
- Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
- Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job

- Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
- Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
- Ability to work extended hours as needed, including nights, holidays and weekends
- Must meet confidentiality expectations as to confidential, proprietary, and sensitive Company information
- Air travel with possible overnight stays
Pay & Benefits
Competitive market salary from $183,950 - $204,400 per year* depending on qualifications and experience, with opportunity for future pay increases based on performance and market movement. For eligible leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
