Position Overview:
Chief Flight Training Officer (CFTO) will be a senior officer responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Academy’s flight training & safety programs. This position is responsible for the oversight and success of United Aviate Academy’s (UAA), Instructor Cadre, scheduling and dispatch operations flight standards, and aviation safety programs. The CFTO must demonstrate strong business acumen and technical expertise while safely driving efficiency in all operational functions. This position serves as the communication and coordination link between flight operations and all other departments in the company.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Oversee teams responsible for setting and reviewing operations policies and standards, including aircraft safety procedures.
- Provides leadership and direction to team members including Director of Safety, Assistant Director of Flight Operations, Chief Pilots, ACPs and Flight Instructors, Duty Operations Managers, and other key operations roles.
- Works closely with department team members regarding scheduling functions to ensure effective utilization of aircraft and personnel to maximize student progression and completion.
- Use data analytics and team feedback to proactively identify and execute on areas for continuous improvement.
- Work with relevant stakeholders including, but not limited to, Finance, Human Resources, Maintenance and Student Services, and our parent company United Airlines (UA).
- Maintain strong communication, professionalism and leadership skills with the ability to motivate and mentor team members adhering to our United Airlines core4 values.
- Monitor operations to ensure that staff members comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, and government regulations.
- Support the Chief Flight Instructors in liaising with the FAA and ensuring compliance with regulations and United’s standards.
- Attending management and organizational meetings; ensuring two-way communication and alignment throughout the functional areas of the business.
- Assist management with Ad-Hoc value-add projects.

Required:
-
5+ years Part 141 and Part 61 flight training leadership experience at a high-volume organization.
- 3+ years of FAR Part 141 experience with familiarity of FAA policy, orders, advisory circulars and TCO development and implementation.
- Experience managing people, budgets, aircraft, and vendor management contracts and negotiations.
- Familiarity with rules and regulations, detailed tracking, and reporting, including FAA rules and regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite with emphasis on Excel proficiency and aviation scheduling systems.
Certifications:
- Possess pilot credentials, which meet all requirements specified in FAR Part 141.37.
- Current Certified Flight Instructor ASEL, AMEL, CFI
Preferred:
- Previous key leadership role in a FAR Part 61/141 organization and/or a collegiate aviation program.
- Experience developing training programs and TCO's.
- Experience with a flight school scheduling software and analysis.
- Detailed documentation of training records and compliance to Safety Practices and Procedures manual and a Just Safety Culture.
- Experience working Power BI, or other data presentation software.
- Experience understanding of 14 CFR, FSIMS 8900, and other regulations pertaining to aviation.
- Business acumen with flight training and safety management.
- Senior level flight training organizational leadership experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in business, aviation management, or equivalent leadership experience.
