SUMMARY

The Avionics Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of avionics maintenance, installation, and troubleshooting across aircraft serviced by the organization. This role provides technical leadership to avionics technicians, ensures compliance with FAA regulations and company policies, manages labor and workflow, and maintains high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency in the department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Lead, schedule, and supervise daily activities of avionics technicians to ensure timely and compliant maintenance, inspections, and installations.
  • Coordinate with internal departments and customers to prioritize work based on aircraft availability and deadlines.
  • Review, approve, and audit work orders, logbook entries, and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with FAA and company standards.
  • Serve as the technical point of contact for complex avionics troubleshooting and provide hands-on support when necessary.
  • Manage training, development, and performance evaluations for avionics staff; ensure certifications and technical knowledge are current.
  • Maintain inventory levels of avionics parts, test equipment, and consumables; coordinate with procurement and logistics as needed.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives for avionics processes, documentation, and quality control.
  • Oversee adherence to safety policies and promote a culture of accountability and professionalism within the team.
  • Support audits and inspections conducted by regulatory bodies or clients.
  • Report departmental metrics, staffing needs, and operational concerns to senior leadership.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE

  • In-depth knowledge of aircraft avionics systems, including navigation, communication, autopilot, and surveillance systems.
  • Expert understanding of FAA regulations, Airworthiness Directives, and inspection procedures related to avionics.
  • Proficient with interpreting schematics, wiring diagrams, maintenance manuals, and STCs.
  • Familiarity with avionics software updates, system integration, and calibration processes.
  • Strong understanding of quality control principles and documentation requirements in a Part 145 or general aviation environment.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in avionics maintenance, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead technician role
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Avionics, Electronics, or a related field preferred
  • Completion of a recognized avionics or electronics training program
  • FCC License with Elements 1 & 2 preferred
  • Valid Driver’s License required
  • Must meet requirements for airport ramp access and badging

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work performed in aircraft hangars, shop environments, and ramp areas with exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical systems, tools, and test equipment
  • Occasional work outdoors with exposure to seasonal weather and noise from aircraft and ground equipment
  • Must be able to climb ladders, crouch, kneel, and work in confined spaces or elevated platforms
  • Frequent standing and walking; occasional lifting of equipment up to 50 lbs

 

WORK AUTHORIZATION/SECURITY CLEARANCE

  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • If a Security Clearance is required:
    • Candidates "must/may need" to be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance
    • Successful candidates must be able to secure Program Access approval
