Job Description   Performs other than piloting essential in-flight
duties on experimental, engineering, production, ferry,
repositioning, and other flights. Assists the pilot during flight as a
technical operating, decision-making, and performing flight crew
member. Functions as a part of the minimum operating crew when
designated by regulatory or other government documents in cases
when the aircraft may not be operated without the professional
services of the flight crew member. Makes decisions regarding
aircraft systems, weapons systems, flight environment, suitability
for operation, and safety, and coordinates these decisions with the
pilot(s) during flight Develops engineering and flight crew member
solutions to technical ground and in-flight operational problems
requiring originality and extensive experience on multiple aircraft
models or types. Applies specialized systems operational expertise
to develop and apply new and emerging technologies. Provides
technical guidance to engineering and support personnel.
Integrates and coordinates flight operations activities with other
organizations. Represents the company at conferences with
customers, vendors, and subcontractors.  

Competencies   Knowledge of aircraft systems (e.g., fuel,
hydraulics, pneumatic), including operations and limitations.
Knowledge of weight and balance and its relation to center of
gravity control through cargo loading and fuel management. The
ability to show resilience in response to constraints, frustrations
and/or adversity. Ability to adjust priorities to multiple demands
and unanticipated events as well as adjust decisions and actions to
new information. Ability to be flexible in response to changing
circumstances or conditions, be receptive to feedback and
coaching, and be resilient after failures or disappointments. The
ability and willingness to take independent action. This includes
moving quickly and directly to complete the task at hand and not
waiting to be instructed to complete job activities. Also includes the
willingness to seek out additional assignments or tasks. The ability
to prepare clear, accurate, and understandable written text in
English following the basic rules of spelling, grammar, and
punctuation. Act as part of an integrated team to ensure safe and
efficient operation of the aircraft by adhering to the principles of
crew resource management (CRM) (e.g., communications, decision-
making, situational awareness) and company/regulatory guidance.
Document aircraft systems operations (e.g., normal, abnormal,
discrepancies) to demonstrate system functionality and gather data
for system improvements. Perform ground and flight duties as they
pertain to Acceptance Check Flight (ACF), Functional Check Flight
(FCF), and experimental/engineering testing (e.g., preflight,
normal and emergency checklists, postflight, test conditions) as
part of the flight crew when designated by company, regulatory, or
other government requirements.  

Education   Must be a graduate of the U.S. Army CH-47 Flight
Engineer Instructors Course. Prefer 5 to 8 years company or
related industry experience.
