Justice - SBI Website: www.ncdoj.com Working Title: Law Enforcement Pilot III Vacancy Number: 60010989 Salary Grade: 73 Salary Range: $42833 - $70500 Hiring Range: $42833 - $70500 Department: Justice - SBI Division: DOJ SBI SPEC OPS Airwing Type of Appointment: Perm Full-Time Location: Raleigh Posting Date: 10/12/2011 Closing Date: 10/20/2011 Number of Positions: 1 Description of Work This is a sworn position located in the Air Wing Section of the State Bureau of Investigation. Position assists Law Enforcement Agencies & Special Agents of the SBI in the investigation of criminal activities. Will provide the law enforcement community of NC with a unique and special service, which is utilization of an aircraft in law enforcement. Position operates Cessna 210 and King Air C90 Aircraft in all types of visibility and weather conditions to support a variety of law enforcement functions & special services, such as aerial surveillance of suspected criminal activity,aerial crime scene photography, aerial crime searches, aerial reconnaissance & intelligence gathering, searches for missing persons & suspects, fugitive searches, emergency/disaster flights, marijuana eradication, airborne communications coordination and relay, & law enforcement administrative-related transportation into some of the highest and lowest density airports across the country. Selected candidate must undergo & sucessfully complete a comprhensive background investigation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Thorough knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration and Federal Communication Commission rules and regulations, and the State Statutes governing the operation and maintenance of aircraft. Thorough knowledge of air navigation and of single and twin-engine aircraft capabilities and performances. Thorough knowledge of all appropriate laws and regulations related to enforcement duties. Considerable knowledge of flight planning, meteorology and aircraft maintenance requirements. Ability to pilot single and twin-engine aircraft in all weather conditions. Ability to communicate effectively and to establish and maintain pleasant working relationships. **A trainee appointment will be considered at a lesser salary for an applicant not meeting the minimum training and experience for the full classification. A trainee appointment will include a structured training plan that will allow the candidate to progress to full classification contingent of successful performance and completion of specific required training.
Training and Experience Requirements
Graduation from high school and four years of experience in related lawenforcement work, and 250 hours of flight time in a closely related type of aircraft and/or type of mission. Department of Justice positions require graduation from a four year college or university in criminology, psychology, sociology, or an aeronautical university with a major in airline pilot, corporate pilot or aviation studies and one year experience in related law enforcement work and 250 hours of flight time in a closely related type aircraft and/or type of mission; or graduation from a four year college or university and at least one year of experience as a military pilot with 250 hours of flight time in a closely related type of aircraft and/or type of mission, and one year experience in related law enforcement work.
Necessary Special Requirements - Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer under the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Council. Certification as a FAA private or commercial pilot in airplanes or rotorcraft, and possession of a FAA Class II medical certificate. May also require ratings in multi- engine (land), seaplanes, instrument Degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.
